About Us

About Us

Private health insurance remains unaffordable for millions of Americans, leading to high uninsured and underinsured rates. To help make coverage more affordable and expand access to comprehensive coverage, some federal and state policymakers have adopted, or are considering, a public health insurance option.

This resource center provides policymakers with a dedicated, independent source of information on public health insurance options. Our experts are available to work closely with you and your staff to help identify, design, and discuss policies like a public option that promote affordability and contain costs.

Who We Are

The Center on Health Insurance Reforms (CHIR) is composed of a team of nationally recognized experts on private health insurance and health reform. We are based at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy and work regularly with a multidisciplinary group of faculty and staff dedicated to conducting research on issues related to health policy and health services.

What We Do

Consistent with our mission and values, CHIR helps policymakers protect consumers, promote affordability, and contain costs. We do so by providing:

  • Comprehensive Online Resources. We maintain a comprehensive list of resources to help educate policymakers, provide unbiased information, and share up-to-date research on public health insurance options.
  • Technical Assistance and Support. We work directly with policymakers on issues related to public health insurance options, help analyze or testify on proposals, and leverage our network to share best practices across states and with federal officials.
  • Public Education. We are available to share our research and analysis at policy briefings, conferences, and webinars.

This project is made possible with support from Arnold Ventures.
